NOlympics
A few shots from a protest in front of City Hall against holding the 2016 Olympics in Chicago:
Mike and Corinné of forgottenchicago.com, there on the right.
“It’s Greek for ‘NO’,” he told me.
I’m terrible at crowd estimates, but I later read that about 250 people were there. Seems about right. It was the usual gathering one sees at these sort of things: a lot of concerned citizens, a bunch of people shouting chants and slogans, more than a few Green Party activists asking you to sign their petition for whatever, at least one guy handing out copies of the Socialist Worker paper, news photographers with their giant zoom lenses competing with camera phone wielding pedestrians for shots, and bored cops keeping watch over the whole spectacle.
It wouldn’t be much of a protest without a few bucket banging anarchists, would it?
I was glad to see they added a trombone to their impromptu marching band.
When one of the speakers started quoting Bob Marley lyrics, I decided that it was time to leave.
Clicking on the photos will make them bigger.
